Paper Presentations

You will be assigned one topic as the “primary” presenter and a second topic as the “secondary” presenter. The role of the primary is to present the paper and relevant background in a way that is both educating the class about the area and generally trying to persuade them that the paper and the approach are good, useful ideas. It is fine to point out limitations or potential areas of improvement, but the focus is on trying to convince us this paper takes a step forward. Note that there will be an introductory lecture about the area so you don’t have to start from the beginning with background information. The secondary provides a critique of the paper, trying to poke holes in the approach or note places where the ideas or techniques could be improved. The primary presents first (~20-30 minutes) and the secondary presents second (~10 minutes). The primary should prepare a formal presentation and the secondary should usually prepare a few slides to highlight their points as well. This is useful for visualization where the points are often made by showing images/figures.
