Local buses -
Once CPU > 8MHz., it(CPU) was separated from the i/o bus.

Memory and Video were only devices that attempted to keep up with CPU.

VL-Bus (VESA-Local or video-local) is an expansion of the ISA bus (again).
    Early versions were somewhat proprietary.

    1992-1994 standardized. Modeled after EISA

VESA - Video Electronics Standards Association.

  Faster.
Used for memory and video access.

Standard ISA still existed on the system but isolated from faster bus.

32 bit data bus. 33 MHz.

  133MB/s throughput max.

Tied into the 486 CPU and used the processor bus directly.
(Used exactly same control/handshake lines as CPU) Easy to interface.

However, different speed 486 CPUs caused incompatibilities with cards.
(Other CPU models had different control/handshake lines)

112 contacts (many were ground to guard against data corruption).
    Same connector as MCA.
