Penny's soooo much better picture of Clifden
Clifden

Our Comments: After we reached Clifden, we drove to look for a high spot above the town so we could take a great picture. Jeff found this place overlooking Clifden and set up the shot, but Penny's picture turned out sooooo much better! (Editors Note: Preceeding comment per Penny.) We discovered this castle near Clifden quite accidentally, while cruising the "high road" around the bay. When we asked an older Irish lady how to get back to the castle, she said, "It's just an old ruined building in a cow pasture," but we were determined to see the "old ruined" place for ourseves. After gingerly stepping over more than a few cow pies and climbing over six fences, we reached the ruins. We spent the entire afternoon climbing all over. There was no one else there but the cows, the sheep, and us! By the end of the day, we had taken 6 rolls of film.

Travel Log -- Food: Forget what they say about the British Isles and bad food. We can't speak for the rest of the UK, but in Ireland the food was wonderful! With fresh salmon every day, we had to curb a strong instinct to swim up river. The Irish brown bread and the apple desserts (apple pie, apple tart, apple crisp, …) were wonderful, too. Caution, though: what the Irish call "bacon" is what we would call "ham."
